Recovery of Lebanese Citizenship through the Old Census Expires on 11/25/2025
Law No. 41, approved by the Lebanese Parliament on November 24, 2015, facilitated the reacquisition of Lebanese nationality for descendants of the diaspora. Applicants must have their name, or that of their paternal ancestors, registered in the 1921–1924 censuses (residents or emigrants), proving the family link through any official document.
The law was created to correct decades of inability to register Lebanese families abroad. It allowed descendants to be registered in the civil registry of the village or city of origin of their parents or grandparents, reconstructing lost branches of the family tree.
The deadline to apply for citizenship under this law is November 25, 2025.
After November 25, 2025:
Recovery through censuses prior to 1932 ceases to exist.
From that date onwards, only descendants of immigrants registered civilly after 1932 will be eligible, always through paternal transmission according to current Lebanese law.

The Maronite Foundation Worldwide, linked to the Maronite Patriarchate in Bkerke, offers citizenship free of charge through the Lebanese government. The institution promotes cultural initiatives to reconnect the diaspora to its roots.
